6 Tips You Can Do Now For Healthier Hair

6 Tips You Can Do Now For Healthier Hair
1.Double check your home treatments and technique

When treating your own hair at home, it’s easy to be overzealous and damage your scalp without even knowing. Because you can’t easily view your scalp, you won’t even notice the difference. If you straighten, process, color, or heat your hair at home, try getting a second opinion from a professional to make sure you are doing it correctly. Paying a stylist to do it once is cheap in the long run, and may teach you some important techniques that you can use when you style at home.

2. Make sure you’re getting enough vitamins.

The modern diet of our society can be an insufficient source of vitamins and minerals that are used by the body to maintain healthy hair. For instance, Iron-deficiency anemia is common when the body isn’t getting enough iron. You can get your vitamin levels checked by monitoring your daily intake, or by having your physician run a test. Vitamin deficiencies can be easily resolved by supplementing your daily intake with a multi-vitamin.

3. Get rid of hairstyles that tug on your hair.

Braids and weaves that are made too tight often pull out hair that otherwise would be on your head. Keep your ponytails and braids loose to keep your hair from unnecessarily being pulled out.

4. Skip the flat iron if your hair is still wet.

Wet hair breaks easier than dry hair. Before doing any form of tugging on your hair, make sure your hair has adequately dried via air or a soft blow dry. Blow dry on the lowest setting and feel your hair over time. It will look and feel significantly healthier than blasting it on high heat all the time.

5. Do not leave products in for longer than advised.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, that tingling feeling you feel on your scalp by leaving products in for longer than advised may be significantly damaging your hair and scalp. Follow the instructions and recommended time to minimize hair and scalp damage.

6. Eat adequate amounts of protein.

Protein is one of the main building blocks of hair. Check your diet to make sure you’re getting enough. The more active you are, the more protein you will need in your diet to promote healthy hair growth.

Hair-Raising Facts on Hair

Hair-Raising Facts on HairHave you ever tried to count the hairs on your head? It may seem like a task that you can complete with some time, but chances are you’ll never make it. The average individual has approximately 100,000 hairs on his or her head. This number is the same for both men and women. Do you think that you could count that many tiny hairs?

More on Hair

On an average day an individual will lose 60 to 70 hairs. But don’t worry. Most of those hairs are replaced with new growth. The average person will also regrow about ½ an inch of hair every single month!

Hair on the head is not constantly growing, however. If it did you might see yourself looking like a gorilla and not liking what you are seeing. There are active phases and resting phases. The active phase is known as the anagen phase while the resting phases is known as the telogen phase. The hair comes out of the head during the telogen phase.

Why Do We Have Hair?

Do you have any guesses? Hair protects the skin from harm and irritants. Our entire body is actually covered in hair, although some of it is too fine for us to see. The only exception to this is the palms of the hands and the feet. These two areas do not have any hair on them. Of course, men have more hair than women in most cases.

Hair is something that each and every individual has, and some of us have more than others. Hair plays an important part in how we perceive other people and how they perceive us, so it is no wonder that most people look for ways in which they can prolong the life of their hair, make their hair appear fuller and healthier, and try to regrow hair that has been lost through aging.

The Link Between Color Treatments and Hair Loss

Color treatment fact or fiction?

When it comes to matters of the hair, you can rest assured that there are so many different opinions that people have in the world today. All these opinions are so diverse that some of them might actually cause you some hair raising moments. The one thing that you have to be aware of however is the fact that there is a big difference between the truth and fallacies as far as hair treatments are concerned. When you come to think about it, you need to be very keen to make sure that you do not end up believing in the wrong things as many people have.

Use color treatments correctly

One of the most common misconceptions that we have in the world today is that constant use of color treatment can lead to hair loss. Sounds like something you have heard in the recent past, right? Well, in the event that you have heard of the same, you can rest assured that this is all but a fallacy. However there is some near truth in it, which you should as a matter of fact consider carefully.

The fact remains that color treatment is an awesome thing to do, and as a matter of fact it makes you feel awesome, like you are a new person. It is however important for you to know that all components of color treatments are composed of some chemicals. All the chemicals are designed in such a way that they can make your hair feeling as good as new. However, you need to be very careful.

The reason for this according to UK hairdressers is due to the fact that all the chemicals used up in the color treatments can be dangerous to you, if and only if they are used in the wrong way. Always be keen to make sure that you do not get to use the coloring on your hair inappropriately. Besides that however, you can also consult a dermatologist or your nearest medical physician in the event that you are looking to try something new on your hair. This is especially so in the event that you have been having problems with your hair in the past.

Insta-Hair: Do Miracle Hair Growth Products Work?

Do Miracle Hair Growth Products Work?

“Full head of hair in a week with our MIRACLE SHAMPOO!” “An instant coif with SPRAY ON HAIR!” With all of the miracle hair-growth products blaring on the TV nowadays, you would think that all of your hair-loss worries are just temporary, that there is a miracle hair product out there – but that you just have not found it yet.

Not Always What They Are Said To Be

Hair re-growth products can be beneficial to people that have significant hair loss, but you should know that they are not the instant gratification that the commercials imply. If your hair loss is not due to a medical condition, there are hormones and vitamins that can help stimulate hair growth.

Get As Many Nutrients As Possible

Enter that pesky little hormone dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, which stops hair growth by blocking the flow of blood to the scalp. To stop DHT from taking over your feeble follicles, invest in a hair vitamin with DHT blockers. These vitamins aim to replenish the vitamins and nutrients that are vital for hair growth. Make sure you use one that has a variety of nutrients, like Biotin and healthy oils, that assist in hair health and growth.

Still Want Instant Gratification?

Now, if instant gratification is more your speed, ignore those commercials on TV – unless you like throwing money down the drain. Instead, have you ever thought of a hair transplant, or even a wig? Now that, my dear reader, is miracle insta-hair growth.

Split Ends and Hair Growth

Are split ends and hair growth related?

The dreaded split ends that make your hair look like you haven’t paid attention to it in weeks, frizzy and uncontrollable. Oftentimes friends and family (and even strangers on the street) will tell you to cut off split ends the moment you identify them. So oftentimes we do, but why exactly are we cutting those split ends, does it provide any benefit or do we do it because it’s what we  have always done’? Are split ends and hair growth correlated?

Why we cut off split ends

First things first, look at this incredible close-up of what split ends look like – pretty damaged as is. What you are seeing there is the cortex, which is composed of long-coiled proteins called keratin that provide texture and strength to your hair. Usually the cuticle protects this layer, but with split ends, the cuticle is damaged. This causes the protein fibers to unravel.

Now, what happens if you do not cut off the problem area is the shaft of each and every individual hair is going to continue to split. In other words, the problem is going to spread, like a crack in your windshield. What starts as a small problem, eventually grows and becomes a much larger problem. Therefore, unless you cut it off now, you will have to cut off a larger amount of hair later to resolve the problem.

When to cut them off

The moment that split ends occur, you only need a light trim, maybe about a half-inch or so to take care of the problem area. Wait longer, maybe an inch past the tips, and you are left with no other alternative but to take off considerably more.

There are lots of steps you can take to prevent split ends, but the second they occur the best step to take is just cutting them off to prevent future damage to the rest of your hair. Although split ends and hair growth are not directly correlated, managing split ends can increase how much healthy hair you have in the long run.
